This promenade is perhaps the most successful and most beloved element of the 1969 Johnson Burgee plan.  It is accessible to all residents, including residents of the Coler campus directly to your right.  A round trip along the promenade is about 4 miles; enough to burn off that ice cream you had on Main Street.

As you walk north on the promenade, look to your left for a completely unique view of Manhattan's Upper East Side. As cars speed up and down the FDR, the Circle Line Cruise ships battle the current upward towards the Bronx, you can also see Carl Schurz Park built on a deck above the FDR.

In the distance to the northeast is the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge and Ward's Island straight ahead, where many of Roosevelt Island's undesirable inhabitants were sent. But just because they've gone, doesn't mean they're forgotten.  Our last stop on this tour shows just that.
